The NHS is facing an unprecedented backlog. I've suggested that we learn a lesson from the recent past. In the 1990s, Kenneth Clarke as Chancellor introduced tax relief for private health insurance.
This meant we lessened the burden on the National Health Service and allowed waiting times to fall.
New Labour hated it and scrapped it when they were elected. Tax relief worked before; why not bring it back?
We need to get through the NHS backlog.

When Ken Clarke was Chancellor he introduced tax relief for those on private health insurance to help clear the waiting list. New Labour scrapped it.
Why not do it again? pic.twitter.com/ranjRxJokm
