I am deeply alarmed by reports published in the Telegraph which suggest that Scampton could be housing migrants for as long as five years. Time and time again during this process the Home Office have assured us that the RAF base would only be used temporarily and for as little time as possible.
I have written to Home Office minister Robert Jenrick MP seeking his reassurance that the Home Office will honour their previous pledges, and asking him to confirm how long his department intend to house illegal migrants at Scampton.
We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to deliver a remarkable level of investment into West Lindsey. It is vital that as much of the former RAF base is released for redevelopment as soon as possible.
Despite my warnings, it is clear the Home Office haven't thought their plans through, and they would be much wiser scrapping this proposal altogether.
