Maira Shahbaz is a 15-year-old Pakistani Christian girl who was abducted, raped, forcibly converted, and who now lives in fear of her life. Her family report that they feel they are living like caged animals.
The United Kingdom can and should offer Maira and her family asylum here. The Home Secretary has agreed to meet me and representatives of Aid to the Church in Need regarding her case. I look forward to meeting with Priti to see what our Government can do for her.
Pakistan will not crack down on the abduction of teenage girls from the country's many religious or ethnic minorities until we shine a light on horrible cases like Maira's.
